Under Campbell and Josh as they fly out of Wellington is an empty warehouse. Eagerly awaiting entry to the warehouse is the Victoria University First Light team who will be ably assisted Mainzeal in the construction of the FirstLight House. Use of the warehouse has been donated by Wild at Heart
Currently many of the sponsors are creating components to be installed in the FirstLight House. In order for the House to perform in the Solar Decathlon the joinery is one of the critical areas that need to be addressed. Anyone who analyzed a buildings performance or just felt the temperature change standing next to the window in winter will know the benefits of high performance joinery and glazing in architecture. The FirstLight team have been trying to best represent the New Zealand way of life with our bach / indoor outdoor way of life, crucial to this communicating this design is the joinery. Coming from the west coast surfing location of Raglan is the double glazed timber joinery. Meanwhile up in the Hutt Carters have been busy with the prenail creating the wall and floor frames that are going to be filled to the brim with insulation.
